Structure and Freedom

just a thought

The feeling of control is something that most systems are designed to give us. It's the sense that we have power over what we're doing, that we're the ones calling the shots. This feeling can be comforting and reassuring, especially when we're dealing with complex tasks or projects.

However, there's one area where the feeling of control can be counterproductive: the creative process. When it comes to creating something new, whether it's a piece of art, a piece of writing, or a new product or service, the creative process requires not just a process, but a sense of freedom.

This sense of freedom is what allows us to think outside the box, to come up with new and innovative ideas, and to take risks. Without it, we may be able to create something that's technically sound, but it's unlikely to be truly creative or innovative.

So, how do we balance the need for process and the need for freedom in the creative process? One way is to establish a framework or structure for our work, but allow for flexibility within that framework. This gives us the structure we need to stay focused and on track, but also allows us the freedom to explore new ideas and approaches.

Another way is to take breaks and step away from our work from time to time. This can help us clear our minds and come back to our work with a fresh perspective and renewed creativity.

The creative process is a delicate balance between structure and freedom. By finding the right balance for ourselves, we can unlock our full creative potential and bring truly innovative ideas to life.
