Blog Post-y Kind of Year

just a thought

January 12, 2022 marked one full year of consistent posts on my blog. As it feels like I avoided it for as long as humanely possible, I'm taking a hot minute to celebrate.

This blitz (blitz for me anyway) started on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 with a post titled DoorsWith the first one under my belt I decided to post twice a week - once on Tuesday and once on Thursday. This felt doable.

The second week of May I started posting three times a week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This week was also significant because the blog started to take on a clearer direction as I began writing around three main topics - nonprofit fundraising, nonprofit data, and something I call "just a thought." This new structure helped me write with more purpose and clarity.

Around the year's halfway point I really started to find my groove as my writing process became more efficient with the use of an app called Airtable. At that point, I had been using Airtable for some time, but what I did differently was build a database to capture my post ideas in a logical, categorized, and searchable way. It became my way of reaching into my mind, grabbing an idea, pulling it down, and entering it into my blog post database. I was then able to filter by category, create a calendar, and work new posts through the writing process all within Airtable. This new way of organizing my blog posting brought some order to the chaos that grew up around constantly having to think up new ideas.

On Friday, June 4th I sent my very first Friday Email which summarized the posts for that week. As I've always been a bit nervous about putting my ideas out into the world in this way, this was a big step. I've sent my weekly email every Friday since that day. I'll continue doing so until folks stop reading.

Which bring me to you - the readers. We are few, but mighty and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read, offering feedback, and connecting on a new level. THANK YOU!

My goals for 2022 are to change some things up a bit. If you are a subscriber to my email list, the Friday emails may start to look a bit different and there may be some new categories that pop up, but it'll be the same old me just trying my best to make a go of it.

Thank you for reading. I appreciate you. Okay, I have to go write now.
