The Actor & The Asker: Similarity #4

Hi there. I hope you are well. So far, we’ve explored 3 ways in which actors and askers are or should be similar.

I want to recap quickly before sharing the 4th similarity.

First – my definition of an actor. An actor is anyone who strives to bring authenticity, truth, empathy, and understanding to every exchange either onstage or off. Askers must rise to this definition.

We’ve to this point explored the similarities of CONNECTION, THE OTHER, EMPATHY.

The next and if you’re counting – 4^th similarity is – INTEREST. Askers must develop the same level of INTEREST in all things – especially in prospects and donors – that actors have.

The creative and intellectual curiosity actors have for most things lead them to an EXTREME INTEREST in all things. Askers must work to create EXTREME INTEREST in all things as well. For actors this extreme interest often leads them to the truth of a character. This can be the same with askers and finding the truth of their donors and prospects. The more interest an asker has in all aspects of a donor or prospect – how they work, what makes them tick, what motivates them, & why they do what they do – the more truthful the connection will be with that donor or prospect.

So, let your interest blossom into a fascination with your donors and prospects.

I hope you are beginning to see the increasingly strong and important similarities between actors and askers. Developing CONNECTION and EMPATHY with THE OTHER should lead both actors and askers to EXTREME INTEREST. But wait there’s more…and we’ll discuss the “more” in a future post.
