An Asker's Mental Maneuver

You will sometimes get what you ask for...probably most times. You will never...very rarely...get what you don't ask for.

Here's a mental maneuver I used as a nonprofit fundraiser and now share with other askers when I'm coaching them. When I was feeling particularly anxious, fearful, or stressed about an ask I'd pause to remind myself that the prospect knew exactly why I was contacting her. She was well aware I was going to ask her for something. This relaxed me into the moment and the whole ask cycle with the prospect.

Fear of the ask can sometimes trap us in inaction and keep us from asking. Let the fact that your prospect knows why you're reaching out to them comfort you and ease the fear. 

Ask away! You won't get what you don't ask for.
