8 Tips for Nonprofit Askers
Successful fundraising programs that last are largely about organization, building trust, and being authentic with your donors and future donors.
Here are 8 simple tips to keep in mind as you work with your constituents.
- Develop a plan with a timeline...and stick to it.
- Know your donors and future donors. Ask them questions in surveys and one-on-ones.
- Be consistent, reliable, and available.
- Ask for help. If you discover you are not the best fit for a particular donor or prospect, ask for help.
- Make your work personal. Most of us made our way to our organizations because we felt passionately about the mission. Let this passion show in your work.
- Stay positive. If you're donor or prospect doesn't feel you love your organization and its mission, why should they?
- Steward often by sharing the positive impact your donors' generosity has in your community.
- Find your unique way of saying, "Thank you!" A hardy, authentic, personal thank you is your best path to a happy and repeat donor.
