Year of Yes

just a thought

A significant part of my actor training was and continues to be improvisation. The first rule of improv is a little concept called "Yes, and..."

"Yes, and..." simply means that performers in an improvisation should accept what other performers offer in the scene (say "yes") and then build upon that offer, adding to it (this is the "and..." part of the equation). Saying "Yes, and..." keeps the improv moving forward.

You can see the significance this first rule of improv can have onstage as well as offstage in all aspects of life both personal and professional.

In so many ways 2021 was a year of "Yes, and..." for me. Here are the three main ways this principle played a role in my year and changed me for the better.

  1. Sharing my thoughts and ideas with others via my blog as well as Friday emails and letting the confidence that came with this cascade into other parts of life.
  2. Taking better care of myself physically, mentally, and spiritually and allowing a sense of peace and calm guide my decisions.
  3. Recommitting to projects that I had let fall by the wayside and building upon the creative energy that came with this.

As we kick off 2022, I'm saying yes to another year of "Yes, and..." and embracing all that comes with it.

Here's to a prosperous and healthy year. And to more yeses!
