THE Reason I'm Down with OPB

one-person business

The number one reason I became a one-person business (OPB)? I saw a niche that needed to be filled that I felt I could fill. At the turn of the century - 20th to 21st to be clear...I'm not that old - I saw nonprofit organizations had few options when it came to data and data systems service providers.

Most organizations were getting these services directly from the company that made their particular donor management software while others were going with larger IT management firms. There was a need for higher touch, expert donor management system services provided by professionals with nonprofit experience. That was me.

Since, my OPB has grown to include other services, but nonprofit data and donor management systems is where it started.

The secret to starting an OPB and being your own boss is...well there is no big secret. You first have to decide you want it. Then find a niche you feel comfortable filling. Notice I didn't say confident? Confidence will come as you grow into being an OPB. The next step is to do the work. That's it. Simply do the work and stick to it.
