Self-Starter-Motivator

one-person business

It's one thing to start. It's an entirely different thing to keep going especially when things get hard. An OPB must first be a self-starter AND then a self-motivator. They are two crucial pieces of the same puzzle.

Opportunity is all around us if we simply open our eyes and choose to see it. A self-starter is someone who can identify opportunity and develop a plan for maximizing it. Someone who seizes a moment in time and acts. Somone who has a keen eye and can identify a niche to fill, a problem to solve, or a question to answer. A large part of starting as an OPB is determining your goals and creating a plan for reaching them. It helps to think of your goals in terms of time - short-term (by month), midterm goals (by year), and long-term goals (5 years or more).

A self-motivator is different than self-starter. A person who can motivate themselves is able to keep going once they've started. A self-motivator is continually working their plan, reviewing it, letting it create the motivation and the inspiration to keep moving it forward.

When you need a dose of motivation go back to your plan, go back to your plan, go back to your plan. I know it can feel repetitive, boring, and sometimes extraordinarily frustrating, but it's the best thing you can do to recover when you feel yourself on the verge of giving up. Going back to my plan and reviewing my goals reignites me every time. Be sure to set aside time each week, at the very least, to review your plan and your goals.

Becoming a self-starter and self-motivator is a learned skill. Just open your eyes and keep going back to your plan. These are two keys to becoming a successful OPB.
