Come on Ride the Train

career just a thought

Each morning I get up, brush my teeth, and hop on the first idea train that pulls into the mental station and ride it as far as I can. The train may arrive by way of a lucid dream, a passing thought, or even a single simple word. Once the ride ends on one train, I catch the next one.

Working this way, allowing one creative spark to lead me to the next, keeps me malleable. It is a key factor in helping me stay adaptable in my work as changes inevitably arise.

There are several benefits to being adaptable in your work.

  • Becoming a better leader
  • Being better equipped to face challenges
  • Working happier
  • Being more relevant
  • Increasing your value as an employee

Want to be more adaptable at work? Try out some of these.

  • Purposefully get out of your comfort zone
  • Work on your active listening skills
  • Ask questions
  • Find the positive in any situation
  • Stay open to learning from your coworkers
  • Practice expressing your emotions

So go on, allow yourself the freedom to hop on the first idea train that shows up at the station each morning and ride your way to adapting to any change that comes your way at work.
